Enduring Hope
Alan Telford
Faith is obviously important as without faith we cannot please God (Hebrews 11:6) or be born again (Romans 10:9). And love is the greatest commandment (Matt 22:37-40). But what about hope? Why is this included in the big three? Why do we need it, and what happens to us when we are running short?
Hope is the spiritual force which provides endurance in your life, that ability to keep going and going and going like the Energizer bunny. Imagine that your life is a race, and not just any race, but an Ironman. Swim 3.8 km, cycle 180 km, run 42.2 km and brag for the rest of your life, as the Ironman slogan goes. Crossing the finish line is going to demand endurance, a whole lot of endurance. Your Christian life is also an endurance race with the finish line being the Second Coming or your physical death –whichever comes first.
